The goal of our cheer program is to learn age and skill level appropriate cheerleading fundamentals, to support our Ellington Roadrunners football team, and to have fun! Safety is our first priority, and your coach will be CPR & First Aid certified, a member of the NYSCA, trained in concussion prevention, and safety certified through the AACCA.
Our first practice is on Monday, July 28. We practice Mon-Thurs each week during the summer, and then reduce to a shortened practice schedule once school begins at the coach’s discretion. Our time during August is a critical learning period, and we ask that every attempt is made to be at each practice. This is where we learn the basics of arm motions, jumps, stunting, sideline cheers, and the halftime routine. It is a lot to learn in a short period of time, so expect to see a little something new from you cheerleader each day. Of course, practice at home is what makes this all possible, so we ask that you encourage them to stretch and practice often.
Once the season begins, we cheer weekly at Roadrunners football games home and away, within the NCFL league. The games are generally on Sundays with the occasional Saturday game. We cheer rain or shine, so please plan accordingly. We participate in the NCFL cheer competition in late Oct/early Nov, which we prepare for throughout the season. This is an event that puts the spotlight specifically on the cheerleaders, and is an amazing opportunity to show off everything we learn throughout the season. Schedules permitting, we sometimes participate in other competitions in our area. More information on competitions will be provided from your coach.
Your coaches are excited and can’t wait to meet you! Please join us at our registration/orientation event in May to learn more.
